Founded in 2024, Project Butanding is led by a group of enthusiastic medical students from the
Nanyang Technological University Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine hoping to make a difference in the community of Leyte.
Embarking on our inaugural trip from 3rd to 16th July 2025, we successfully organised health screening and
health education programmes for the residents of Leyte alongside our partner, Volunteer for the Visayans (VFV),
local medical students, and doctors and nurses from rural health clinics.
Assoc Prof Endean Tan is a Senior Consultant in the Department of General Medicine at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
As our mentor, his wealth of clinical expertise is invaluable in ensuring that we provide the highest standard of care through our health education and health screening programmes.
Along the way, he also shares his strong passion for medical education through various tutorials to broaden students'
understanding of rarely seen conditions.
A/Prof Tan particularly enjoys the intensity and scope of Acute Medicine, and his raw enthusiasm and energy for this cause is easily palpable.
He counts himself fortunate for being able to deliver medical care to those in need no matter where they are, and inspires the team to
serve with humility and gratitude.
